Mountain scenery has multiple faces. A six weeks trekking through the Swiss and Italian South-East Alps, again, revealed some views. Both pictural and in my mind.

In western climbing literature mountains are seen as beautiful, but from a non-personal perspective. Mountains are (just) dead rock. The climber acts as conquerer, feeding his ego, his heroism overshadowing the mountain. As in the monotheistic religions, people are regarded on top of the world. Man is more important than mountains.
Books from Nepalese sherpas, Tibetan monks, Mongolian shamanists share a typical eastern attitude towards the universe. There is no fundamental difference between man and nature. Everything is equally spiritual, deserving full respect. Mountains are spiritual as well: God created all, is everywhere and is in everything. Man and mountain both are part of a sacred whole. You don’t conquer a mountain, the mountain is giving you acces. Or not.

Brightly sunlit, the ice-topped mountain reflects against a dark blue-indigo sky. Showing itself with king-like grandeur, the mountain is friendly welcoming you to approach.

Sculptured in 2012 by a local woodcarver, at 2300 mtr high, crusified Jesus Christ is looking out into the far distance. The deserted big ridge of rock, the same as pictured above, resembles a kind of Golgotha (skull-place). With rough cuts, lacking fine detail, the expression is stunning. Loneliness, suffering, dignity and humanity. The heavenly nature is expressed in the close to God high-mountain set-up.

Clouded and misty, only parts of the mountains are visible. Everything has a soft, low-contrast and muted-color touch. The invisibility feels mysterious and fary-tale like. All about secrecy and fantasy, the mountain invites you to look more into your mind than through your eyes.

When winter is coming with snowfall and low clouds, hiding the mountain-tops and blue sky, everything is white. Except for some black tinted pieces of rock and trees. The scenery provoces feelings of getting lost.

Most pictures are shot with Panasonic GX7 & 14-45/3.5-5.6 lens. Most images are processed with a conservative Lighroom-approach: negative clarity, no color/saturation enhancement, just a little sharpness addition. All done to maintain the warm-soft atmosphere in a number of mountain-scenes.
